Product Description

Fractal Design Era ITX Cobalt TG Compact Mini-ITX Case

  • Elegant Design Meets SFF Engineering: The Fractal Design Era ITX breaks away from the traditional, restrictive boxy designs of most mini-ITX cases. By utilizing sweeping, curved aluminum panels and premium top inserts, it acts as a modern centerpiece for any office, gaming desk, or living room setup, proving that you don’t need a massive tower to house a powerful PC.
  • Versatile Hardware and PSU Support: One of the biggest challenges in SFF building is power supply compatibility. The Era ITX solves this by utilizing an innovative, adjustable mounting bracket system. It allows you to install compact SFX or SFX-L power supplies to maximize cable management space, or you can mount a standard ATX power supply (up to 200mm) if you are bringing parts over from an older build. The motherboard tray supports standard Mini-ITX boards, while the lower chamber accommodates full-length, dual-slot graphics cards up to 295mm, making it fully capable of housing high-end 1440p and 4K gaming hardware.
  • Adaptable Airflow and Liquid Cooling: Cooling a 16-liter case requires intelligent engineering. The Era ITX features a “chimney” airflow design, drawing cool air from the bottom and exhausting it out the top. While this specific model features a sleek Tempered Glass (TG) top panel, Fractal includes a secondary black steel mesh top panel in the box, allowing you to instantly swap them out if your components need more breathing room. For CPU cooling, the removable top radiator bracket makes it incredibly easy to install a 240mm All-In-One (AIO) liquid cooler or dual 120mm fans right outside the case before dropping the entire assembly cleanly into the chassis.

Key Features

  • Premium Aluminum Exterior: A striking, contoured cobalt blue aluminum body that stands out from traditional gaming cases.
  • Swappable Top Panels: Includes both a stylish Tempered Glass top insert and a high-airflow steel mesh insert to suit your thermal needs.
  • Flexible PSU Mounting: Adjustable internal brackets allow for the installation of ATX, SFX-L, or SFX power supplies.
  • Water-Cooling Ready: Features a removable top bracket for painless installation of 240mm radiators or dual 120mm fans.
  • Tool-Less Accessibility: The top panel attaches magnetically, and both side panels utilize push-to-lock pins for completely tool-free maintenance.

  • Living Room Gamers: The compact 16-liter footprint and elegant design make it the perfect chassis for a powerful Home Theater PC (HTPC).
  • SFF Upgraders: Users who want to downsize their massive desktop into a smaller footprint but still want the option to reuse their existing ATX power supply.

Comparison: Fractal Design Era ITX vs. Fractal Design Terra

When exploring Fractal’s premium Mini-ITX lineup, you will likely compare the Era ITX to the newer Fractal Design Terra. The Terra utilizes a “sandwich” layout with a central spine that can slide left or right to adjust clearance between the CPU cooler and the graphics card, making it hyper-optimized for massive 3-slot GPUs. It also features a real wood accent on the front panel. The Era ITX, on the other hand, uses a more traditional, open-chamber layout. While it is limited to dual-slot GPUs, it offers much better support for liquid cooling (allowing a 240mm AIO on top, which the Terra cannot fit) and allows for the installation of full-sized ATX power supplies. If you are air-cooling and have a massive GPU, choose the Terra. If you want to liquid-cool your CPU and prefer curved aesthetics, the Era ITX is the better choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I fit a 3-slot graphics card like an RTX 4080 in this case? No. The Era ITX is strictly designed for dual-slot graphics cards with a maximum thickness of 47mm and a maximum length of 295mm. Massive 3-slot or 4-slot GPUs will not physically fit against the side panel.
  2. How is the airflow with the tempered glass top installed? The glass top panel restricts top exhaust airflow compared to an open mesh. If you are running high-wattage components (like an Intel Core i9 or Ryzen 9) that generate a lot of heat, it is highly recommended to swap the glass panel out for the included steel mesh insert during heavy gaming or rendering sessions.
  3. Does installing an ATX power supply cause space issues? While the case natively supports ATX power supplies up to 200mm, using one significantly reduces the amount of empty space available to hide excess cables. Additionally, depending on the mounting height of the ATX PSU, it can limit your maximum graphics card length from 295mm down to 210mm. Using a smaller SFX power supply is highly recommended for an easier building experience.
  4. Where do the storage drives go? The case includes two dedicated storage brackets. One bracket mounts to the side of the chassis (over the CPU area), and the other mounts toward the front, sharing space with the PSU bracket. Depending on your PSU size, you can install up to two 3.5″ HDDs or up to four 2.5″ SSDs.
